Obtaining data (research articles) can be timely & costly. So, at no cost, I upload articles free-to-view. Regardless of who you are – be an investigator…do your research. I seen a lot of questionable practices: whether medical doctors pushing drugs or coaches pushing supplements…both are a common theme! I dislike shams (funded by whatever posse). I feel it is a duty to educate, in every-way; I can’t carry out that task by limiting myself w/ barriers — people who want to see failures are a barrier. I’m not against drugs, supplements, organic food, genetic engineering or genetically modified organisms. Simply, I question (what’s right for myself or perspective client?), and I search for answers. Since 2002/06, I completed phases. Online, I used (geocities journal) w/ dial up connection — pictures and video footage. I define a phase as a exercise + nutrition plan = results. I enjoy the lifestyle: cooking, preparing meals, and following a regime. Whenever I work as a coach…I feel, people (over simplify or complicate things)! Even educated people! Social media seems to define fitness as eating protein bars or completing a 2-3week plan. Personally, I am open to something if it works. No matter the person or plan…I want to see the outcome! Publish long term results. Unfortunately, what I hear and see (is short term…doesn’t work for the average individual — example: TV show — The Biggest Loser). Usually, I’m the first or last person contacted for advice. Either way, if I can inform and guide – thumbs up, that’s my objective. I want any individual to go beyond the brochure. so-to-speak! Four years, I was active as a caregiver (assisting diabetics or individuals w/ metabolic disease) while attending college — I couldn’t believe misinformation regarding: general fitness, weight loss or management of certain conditions (we call diseases). Personally, I do not treat nor cure disease, but I can educate on the physiology/biochemistry aspect of a disease. Currently, I do online sessions (contact for details). Sorry, until further notice, I no longer coach in-person or work at any public gym facility.


If you told me, “Nicky, you’ll attend college.” I wouldn’t believe you. I was brainwashed to believe only certain types attend college (I was a special need student, and therefore, not good enough). At some-point, I realized… education is for everyone! I attended an alternative HS and earned my diploma. Soon after, I enrolled at a university w/ out any assistance (rare for a at-home student) — I completed my education (nutrition/dietetics and exercise science); I made the Dean’s as one of the university’s high achieving students (perfect attendance). No, I am not a favorite or brown-noser. I honestly don’t know what they stand for who funds them but, I am a Public Health graduate student where I research food systems. I am aware of these conglomerate companies that disguise themselves as advocacy groups in the form of nutrition professionals. Quackery & Deception. People fall for it.   9. Yes I agree with you. This is also about Dr. Oz… and his horribly false claims. Sometimes I think that the American people will give in to anything you tell them. Charisma is a powerful thing in this day and time. Too powerful in my opinion. It is so true. The American people are becoming less educated, and it is how the rich can pray on them EVEN EASIER. It’s true. It’s sick, but it is so very true. I really do think it all comes down to Education. Ignorance is left unchecked by our education system, or our ever expanding culture of complacency.

  13. Here is something I discovered a couple of weeks ago and would like your take on it. I have had a rash over about 80% of my body for the last 6 years. Saw primary care phy and allergist and dermo and no one could help me. Go on prednisone and it would clear up. Stop it and it came right back. Monitored and recorded everything I ate and drank. Tried different foods and liquids no help. About 2 1/2 weeks ago I was looking at the daily multiple vitamin I was taking. It along with many others I have found have copper in them. The problem I found that the copper was cupic sulfate. This is not to used by humans. This is only to be used on animal hooves. Stopped the vitamins and rash is completely gone. I know these are supplements and not controlled by the FDA, but what the hell is this that they are poisoning us with.

  19. I have a question for you – why do nutritionists tend to focus so heavily on BMI when, statistically, it isn’t a very accurate model of body composition. Why not focus more on percent fat?

    1. Personally, I focus on everything. As for others – it’s questionable: BMI is a simple tool and easy to rely on. As you stated: body fat percentage and waist circumference is far more ideal when assessing.

  20. Thanks for taking the time and effort to post this. I concur. Google Wallet transfers suck and they’re as pathetic as PayPal. Mailing a paper check using 1920s technology is actually faster. As of Feb 2015, Google Wallet is not the way to go. My first Google Wallet transfer took more than a week to get funds from the sender’s account into my bank account. My bank made the funds available but categorized those funds “not fully processed” for another few days. The same sender sent me funds today. Google Wallet says that it will take an entire week to review it. That doesn’t count the additional delay of making the funds available in my Google Wallet account, much less transferring those funds from Google Wallet into my bank account. Isn’t it amazing that they can manage to take your money instantly, but giving you money somehow takes weeks. None of the security matters delay their getting paid. When you have to get paid, everything’s different.

Another good message especially for the younger viewers who may be considering using their looks for quick $$….You mentioned cloud storage, I would add that cloud cameras that are accessible from the web can just as easily be hacked. Since registration is with your name and address, etc. A hacker could then break into a online account for the webcam, and be able to tell when your not at home, or stalker could sit and “watch” you day in & out. Heck a lot of people with these surveillance cam’s haven’t even change the default admin password! Even though I have webcams for my home they’re not connected to the web and stored on a nas drive that isn’t accessible from the web, I use them to keep an eye on the front door during the day while i’m working or the kitchen to make sure the family pets don’t get into things.

  29. I started using agave nectar instead of regular syrup because I thought it was healthier and the ingredients say “Pure Blue Agave Nectar”. So… It still has high fructose corn syrup? My father also has diabetes and the doctors say he cant eat fruits and vegetables because it will counteract with his medicine and it has too much sugar….but instead he eats poptarts and mcdonalds all day…. Have you had this problem?

    1. Unfortunately, yes – a lot of so call health experts provide misleading info. In your fathers case: a lot of food at Mcdonalds does contain sugar and additives; actually, he is ingesting food that is even WORSE for his health. As for vegetables: simple-complex carbs have a role. Vegetables or plant base = awesome choice when maintaining blood glucose. As for Agave Nectar, it is processed differently in USA; also, Agave is higher in fructose than HFSC (high fructose corn syrup). High fructose corn syrup and fructose are common but different. Fructose is natural (in fruits) and high fructose corn syrup is made by a company.

  30. I’ve experienced this both when I was morbidly obese and now that I have lost the weight and am somewhat muscular. The adjustments I had to make physically to my weight loss and the aftermath were NOTHING compared to the change in the way society at large and people close to me treated me. People who “fat shamed” me reversed course in an instant and became friends. Close friends and co-workers ended friendship, started name calling, how I had “changed too much.” But it was not just people close to me who reversed course. From bars to sales clerks at stores, everything changed. I was in no way prepared for the psychological and social aspects of going from fat to fit. And it is something so few of the people on either side choose to speak about because it points to their own failings as humans, to treat each other with dignity and respect.

    1. I appreciate the feedback! Maybe I should create a video on bod transformation and the treatment of others. Yes, I have faced common issues, and I managed to take it well. I think it is brave of you to make changes and deal with it — it sucks at times but the rewards are much greater.

    1. Hello, I may have some difficulty pin-pointing the actual program because there is so many created by so-so. Usually: genetics/metabolism plays a role in how a professional designs a plan for a particular person. Example: I consume a plant base diet to maintain blood glucose levels. However, some individuals are different and consume a diet of (simple carbs = fruits, sweets, and etc) and may tolerate it well — personally, I may be sensitive and or; cannot metabolize the same way another can / or I may not utilize for energy, and will store as adipose tissue at higher rate; I believe this will cause a crash as well (blood sugar), (depending on the person). USUALLY, plans are designed/personalized. If you have further questions, please post.
